Kenneth Harrington learned about the Jobs for Veterans State Grant program in December 2022. Seeking guidance, he visited the SEMCA Michigan Works! Livonia American Job Center to connect with Paul Freese, a Veterans Career Advisor. Harrington, a military veteran, enrolled in the Department of Veterans Affairs’ Vocational Readiness and Employment (VRE) program to secure suitable employment in his desired career field

A comprehensive assessment showed that Harrington would benefit from the interview workshops at the Livonia American Job Center. After enrolling, he was paired with Marissa Policchio, EDGE Internship Coordinator, who facilitated the workshop. Upon completion, he was thrilled to experience the positive outcomes of Paul’s advice and expressed gratitude for the recommendation and the insights to enhance his resume.

Paul also engaged James Grose, the Local Veterans Employment Representative, in the process. James Grose explored employment opportunities suitable for Harrington and his family. One recommendation led to a position in Lenawee County that Harrington has held since February 2022.

Thanks to the collaborative efforts of these dedicated professionals, Harrington embarked on a new career as an Access Clinician in the Lenawee County office in Adrian, Michigan, earning a substantial annual income of more than $57,000. Despite commuting through two counties, the entire process, from seeking assistance to securing employment, took just two months.
