Michigan Reconnect Expansion for Ages 21-24
More Michigan residents can now earn a degree or skills certificate, tuition-free. For those who are 21-24, don’t miss out! The age expansion is only available for a limited time.
don’t miss the chance to earn your tuition-free degree or certificate
- Now, for a limited time, Michigan residents 21 to 24, including already enrolled community college students or potential students who have not yet earned a college degree, can enroll in Michigan Reconnect, a tuition-free community college program previously limited to those 25 and older.
- Now is the time to enroll because the Reconnect expansion is for a limited time and is a result of Gov. Whitmer working with the Legislature to designate an additional $70 million to temporarily expand the program and help more people and businesses “make it” in Michigan.
Who can apply?
- To be eligible for the Michigan Reconnect Expansion, students must be at least 21 years of age and have not yet completed a college degree.
- Students must also have completed the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA); have earned a high school diploma or equivalent (GED) or certificate of completion; and have lived in Michigan for at least a year.
- NOTE: Eligible Michigan residents 25 and older may still enroll as part of the original Reconnect program.
How do I apply?
To participate in the Reconnect scholarship, you must complete four steps:
- Apply online for Michigan Reconnect. The application takes less than five minutes to complete and can be done on a mobile phone. If you are having difficulties on your mobile device, it is recommended to use a different browser or computer.
- Apply to a Michigan public community college. All public community colleges, including tribal colleges, in Michigan qualify. If you’re already enrolled at a public community college this step is completed. If you’re not, remember your tuition is free at an in-district community college, but that Reconnect only pays part of the tuition if you attend an out-of-district community college. What costs does Reconnect cover?
- Submit your FAFSA. This is free financial aid provided by the federal government.
- Enroll in an eligible program and start classes. You can enroll in any Pell-eligible skill certificate or associate degree program
