Growing up in Pennsylvania, Patricia Cudejko had aspirations of becoming an engineer. At age 17, she moved to Detroit to live with her sister’s family and later secured a position at Manufactures Bank, where she was quickly promoted to the loan department. While at Manufacturers Bank, Patricia took advantage of the employee loan incentive program offered there. She enrolled at The University of Detroit Jesuit College. Unfortunately, back then, women were not permitted to enroll into the Engineering program. So Patricia eventually earned a Bachelor of Arts in Journalism.

Over the next several years, Patricia held many important positions, including wife and mother. While employed at Ford Motor Company, she held positions in project/global development as well as operations management and assistance. In April of 2017, Patricia decided she wanted to go back to work part-time and at once thought of Michigan Works! “I don’t know of anyone who doesn’t think of Michigan Works! when seeking employment”, Patricia said.

Patricia utilized many resources available in the Monroe Michigan Works Service Center, including the Michigan Talent Bank, various job search information resources and also spent time with Career Development Facilitator (CDF), McKenzy Ridner, discussing her job search interests. “McKenzy took it upon herself to pull up potential job leads and pass them on to me”, stated Patricia. In addition, she attended an Information Session where she met with CDF, Dan Baker, to further discuss her employment goals.

Patricia was able to meet with Debra from AARP services in the Michigan Works Service Center and subsequently secured an interview with MCOP in Monroe County. Prior to the interview, she met with Brenda Shopshire, the Michigan Works Career Counselor. During her meeting with Brenda, Patricia discussed interview techniques and reviewed numerous questions that could be asked of her during an interview. Patricia, being quite competent in her interviewing, commented, “I don’t care how much experience you have, Michigan Works is a tremendous help!” Patricia did very well in her interview with MCOP, and was hired for the position of Resource Coordinator. She is responsible for data entry, intake/follow-up services and customer service. She is currently working approximately 20 hours per week and is very happy with her current position.

When asked for her thoughts on job search, Patricia concluded, “It is very important to continue your education whether through certifications, or licensing. Be pleasant! Be conservative.” In addition, Patricia added, “It is easier to go through Michigan Works! because they look out for you!”
