Jessieca Glover was referred to the SEMCA Michigan Works Southgate Service Center as an AEP applicant on January 13, 2014. Prior to this referral, Jessieca had been a PATH Program participant. However, at that time she refused to attend scheduled activities, acted out aggressively, and failed to fulfill her PATH Program requirements. She was placed in the triage program and her participation ended with a negative outcome.

This time, Jessieca returned to the AEP/PATH program with the drive to succeed not only in her career, but in her personal life as well. While in AEP, Jessieca met with her Career Development Facilitator, Michelle Matney, on a weekly basis to discuss her employment goals and barriers. Jessieca was given various resources to assist her in overcoming her barriers. Jessieca attended various job readiness workshops including; a job search workshop, an applications workshop, an interviewing workshop, and a COPS/COPES workshop. She also worked with PATH staff on updating her resume, writing cover letters and thank you letters, and preparing professional references. Jessieca successfully completed AEP and was enrolled into the PATH program on February 3, 2014. She met with the Community Outreach Specialist to receive assistance with employment leads and community service opportunities.

During her PATH participation, Jessieca was enrolled into both VET and community service. Jessieca and Michelle agreed that these activities would help her strengthen her professional relationships and references, and ultimately build her career portfolio. Michelle consistently reminded Jessieca to surround herself with positive people so that positive things would happen in her life.

Jessieca’s hard work and positive attitude paid off when she was contacted for an interview with Henry Ford Health System in Detroit. She successfully completed the interview process and was hired on July 14, 2014 as a Medical Assistant working 32 hours per week at $11.30 per hour. Michelle and the PATH Program were able to assist her with a set of uniforms for her new employment.

Michelle stated “I am so proud of Jessieca and the progress that she has made. She has proven to me that through hard work, determination, and a positive attitude, success happens. I am so excited for her now and in the future”. Jessieca stated “I was beginning to give up, but my awesome CDF Michelle Matney always had words of encouragement. I’m extremely excited about starting my career and will be able to do so with brand new uniforms that Mrs. Matney helped me get! Thank you Michelle and the PATH program”.
