Jeremy Theodore
- Dislocated Worker
A Journey to Year-Round Employment
Jeremy Theodore, an experienced Roller Operator, faced the challenge of seasonal employment, earning $28.50 per hour but being laid off annually. This instability pushed Jeremy to seek assistance at the SEMCA Michigan Works! Southgate American Job Center (AJC) in January 2023. He registered for the WIOA Dislocated Worker (DW) program, and within a few weeks, was also enrolled in the MiLEAP and Industry Infinity programs. Jeremy’s goal was clear: obtain a CDL A license to increase his earning potential and secure year-round employment, providing stability for himself and his family.
In February, Jeremy began his CDL A training at Bert’s Testing and Training in Dearborn, supported by $3,000 from MiLEAP and $1,000 from Industry Infinity. To ease his commute, he received gas cards through the supportive services available at the Southgate AJC. Jeremy excelled in his training, and by April, he successfully earned his CDL A license, marking a significant upgrade in his skill set.
With his new qualification, Jeremy’s career prospects brightened. He secured employment with Midwest Pavement in Milford, MI, as a CDL A driver, earning $32.00 per hour. Reflecting on his journey, Jeremy expressed deep gratitude for the support he received from SEMCA Michigan Works! Southgate AJC, “This new employment opens up many opportunities for me and my family,” he shared, highlighting the transformative impact of the assistance provided.
Jeremy’s success story is a testament to the power of effective training and support programs. SEMCA Michigan Works! wishes him continued success and is honored to assist him in achieving his goals.
