The Southeast Michigan Community Alliance (SEMCA) is proud to announce that it has once again achieved COA Accreditation through May 31, 2028. This prestigious recognition reaffirms SEMCA’s unwavering commitment to excellence and dedication to delivering the highest quality services to the community and its business partners. This marks SEMCA’s sixth consecutive successful accreditation since 2007, when it became the first nonprofit organization in the country to receive this accreditation under the then-newest network standards.
“Achieving COA Accreditation is a significant accomplishment that underscores our unwavering commitment to continuous improvement,” said Gregory Pitoniak, SEMCA Chief Executive Officer. “This recognition reflects the hard work and dedication of our entire SEMCA team, who consistently uphold the highest standards in delivering programs and services to our community. We are proud to be acknowledged as a leader in workforce development and service excellence.”
COA Accreditation, a service of Social Current, is an independent nonprofit that collaborates with human service organizations globally to advance service delivery by establishing and promoting best practice standards. With over 2,000 organizations either accredited or pursuing accreditation, SEMCA’s inclusion in this distinguished network underscores its position among the top organizations in the field.
Since its founding in 1996, SEMCA has been at the forefront of empowering individuals and businesses in Southeast Michigan through workforce development, career training, and supportive services. The organization’s mission – to provide innovative leadership in creating an inclusive, life-long talent and career development system responsive to labor market and industry demands – was rigorously validated during COA’s comprehensive review process.
“The rigorous evaluation by COA not only validates the quality of services SEMCA provides but also reinforces the trust our constituents place in SEMCA as a whole,” said Al Haidous, Chairman of SEMCA’s Governing Board, Southeast Governmental Alliance. “This accreditation ensures that public funds are being used effectively to meet the needs of our community and that residents of Southeast Michigan can rely on SEMCA for high-quality services.”
The path to accreditation involved a rigorous self-assessment, meticulous documentation of processes, and extensive site evaluations. COA’s review highlighted SEMCA’s steadfast commitment to continuous improvement, effective service delivery, and achieving positive outcomes. SEMCA is pleased to report that it not only met but exceeded COA’s stringent standards, receiving no out-of-compliance ratings across any fundamental practice standards. This accomplishment is a testament to the dedication and excellence of SEMCA’s team and service partners.
“COA’s thorough review process, which examines every aspect of an organization, gives Monroe and Out-Wayne County employers and job seekers confidence in the professionalism and effectiveness of SEMCA’s services,” said Charlie Mahoney, Chairwoman of SEMCA’s Workforce Development Board. “This accreditation is a testament to our commitment to providing exceptional customer service and achieving positive outcomes for all SEMCA serves.”
“While we are proud to have completed the formal accreditation process, our work doesn’t stop here,” said Katherine Brady-Medley, SEMCA Chief Operating Officer. “COA Accreditation is not just a milestone but an ongoing journey of striving for excellence. It sets the foundation for SEMCA to continually enhance our services and strategies, ensuring we meet the evolving needs of our community for years to come.”
Achieving COA Accreditation represents more than a mark of excellence – it embodies SEMCA’s ongoing commitment to improvement and impactful service. SEMCA is dedicated to fostering a brighter future for Southeast Michigan, where every individual and business has the opportunity to succeed. This accreditation is a milestone in the organization’s continuous journey toward excellence and a pledge to delivering superior services to its customers.
